Payment Methods
Nexi supports a wide range of payment methods to ensure broad acceptance across different customer preferences and markets. These methods can be grouped into card schemes, wallets, and alternative payment methods.
The payment methods listed below are those most relevant to the Swiss market and are supported by our payment solutions. Availability may vary depending on the specific solution in use, with certain limitations applying in some cases, such as SoftPOS. Additional payment methods may be supported beyond those listed, depending on the integration and market requirements.
Cards
Cards are the most widely used instrument for digital payments, accepted across physical stores, e-commerce, and mobile channels worldwide. They provide a familiar and interoperable way for consumers to pay, regardless of location or device.
Behind every card payment sits a card scheme such as Visa or Mastercard. These schemes define the rules, standards, and infrastructure that govern how transactions are authorized, cleared, and settled between merchants, acquirers, and issuing banks, ensuring that payments are processed securely and consistently across the global ecosystem.
In the Swiss EP2 environment, card acceptance is generally interoperable, meaning terminals can operate with any EP2-compatible card acquirer. For American Express only, you will need a separate agreement with Swisscard.

Wallets
Wallets allow customers to pay using digital devices such as smartphones or wearables. They store tokenized versions of payment cards and provide a secure and convenient way to pay.
When a wallet is used, the underlying card scheme is still used for processing. As a result, wallets are automatically supported when the corresponding card schemes are enabled and do not require separate contracts.

Alternative Payment Methods
Alternative payment methods include both local Swiss solutions and international methods that are not part of the traditional card scheme ecosystem. Some of these methods are based on QR code payments, which are widely used in certain markets and use cases.
These methods are often important for specific customer segments or industries and may require dedicated agreements with the respective providers.
